A Shingon Buddhist monk from the late Heian period. Son of Yamato Sadahira of Otori County, Izumi Province (Osaka Prefecture). From an early age, he climbed Mount Koya to study esoteric Buddhism, but after receiving a message in a dream from a god, he entered Mount Amano in Kawachi. Later, under the orders of Emperor Goshirakawa, he renamed the abandoned temple Kongoji Temple on Mount Amano in Kawachi. In 1172 (Joan 2), he welcomed Emperor Takakura and performed a memorial service, in 1178 (Jisho 2), he built the main hall, and in 1181 (Yowa 1), he held a Denpo ceremony, and is said to be the founder of the revival of Kongoji Temple on Mount Amano. 平安後期の真言宗の僧。和泉国(大阪府)大鳥郡の大和貞平の子。幼いときから高野山に登り密教を学ぶが,明神の夢告を受けたことから河内天野山に入る。その後,後白河法皇の命を受けて,廃寺を河内天野山金剛寺と号する。承安2(1172)年には高倉天皇を迎えて御影供を行い,治承2(1178)年には金堂を建立,養和1(1181)年には伝法会を行うなど天野山金剛寺中興の祖といわれる。永万1(1165)年には六観音像を描き絵画の才にも優れていた。<参考文献>『金剛寺文書』(『大日本古文書』家わけ文書第7)
