Year of death: 12 August 1622 (17 September 1622) Year of birth: 1572 A feudal lord in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Takayoshi's second son, and Takatsugu's younger brother. In 1591, Toyotomi Hideyoshi granted him 5,000 koku of land in Gamo County, Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture). He subsequently became the lord of Iida Castle in Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture), and after Hideyoshi's death, he allied with Tokugawa Ieyasu. For his achievements in the Battle of Sekigahara, he was granted 120,000 koku of land in Tango Province (Kyoto Prefecture), and later became the lord of Miyazu Castle. Together with his brother Takatsugu, he worked hard to restore the Kyogoku clan, and became the ancestor of the Kyogoku clan of Miyazu Domain. His mother Maria (Azai clan) was a devout Christian, and Kochi was particularly influenced by her and had a devout faith.
