Argentine composer and singer. He is also a folklore lyricist and guitarist. His real name was Chabero. His stage name was taken from the names of two emperors of the Inca Empire. He was born in Campo de la Cruz, a remote village in Buenos Aires Province. He moved to Tucuman at the age of nine, and spent his childhood and adolescence wandering the country, studying music and literature while working. In 1929, he wrote his first work, The Way of the Indians. He continued to produce works that exude a deep view of life, with the themes of the lives of farmers and herdsmen, and expanded his activities in the 1930s and 1940s. His representative works include The Moon of Tucuman, Rocked by the Ox-Cart, and The Bull-Driver Goes. He became a leading figure in folklore with his left-handed guitar playing and his songs with a deep, profound narrative style. He also wrote books and poetry collections such as The Way of the Indians, Melodies of the Indians, and Song of the Wind.

アルゼンチンの作曲家，歌手。フォルクローレの作詞家で，ギター奏者でもある。本名チャベロ。芸名はインカ帝国の皇帝２人の名前を取ったもの。ブエノス・アイレス州の寒村カンポ・デ・ラ・クルスに生まれた。９歳のときトゥクマン市に移住，少・青年時代は国内を放浪し，働きながら音楽や文学を学んだ。1929年処女作《インディオの道》を書いた。その後も農民や牧夫の生活をテーマに深い人生観をにじませた作品を発表し，1930年−1940年代に活動の輪を広げた。代表作に《トゥクマンの月》《牛車にゆられて》《牛追いは行く》などがあり，左ききに構えるギターの演奏と渋く奥深い語り口の歌とでフォルクローレの第一人者となった。ほかに《インディオの道》《インディオのしらべ》《風の歌》などの著作や詩集もある。
