...The origin of the word is all people with a clan name in ancient China, and "hyaku" means many clan names. In ancient Japan, peasants were called "Omitakara" or "Mitami" and included all the royal subjects, citizens, and good citizens under the ancient kingship. Under the Ritsuryo system, farmers who received land from the government, local powerful clans, and government officials and aristocrats who were registered in the general family register were all considered peasants. On the other hand, public and private slaves, who were low class people, and barbarians, who were outside the government, were excluded from the peasant status and were discriminated against and alienated. ...
