Alkali cellulose - Arukariserurosu (English spelling)

It is a reaction product of cellulose and alkali metal hydroxide, and is also called alkali cellulose. The most common sodium cellulose is obtained by soaking cellulose in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. Its properties vary depending on the type of cellulose, the type and concentration of the alkali solution, and the processing method, so it is difficult to determine the structure of alkali cellulose simply. Sodium cellulose was previously used as a raw material for viscose rayon, which is manufactured by reacting it with carbon disulfide, but it is now important as a raw material for the synthesis of cellulose derivatives such as methyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and cellulose sulfate.

セルロースとアルカリ金属水酸化物との反応生成物のことをいい、アルカリ繊維素ともいう。もっとも一般的なナトリウムセルロースは、セルロースを水酸化ナトリウム水溶液に浸漬(しんし)すると得られる。その性質は、セルロースの種類、アルカリ溶液の種類や濃度、処理方法などにより異なり、アルカリセルロースの構造を簡単に決めるのは困難である。ナトリウムセルロースは、二硫化炭素との反応により製造されるビスコースレーヨンの原料として以前は用いられたが、現在ではメチルセルロース、エチルセルロース、カルボキシメチルセルロース（CMC）、硫酸セルロースなどセルロース誘導体の合成原料として重要である。
