...Okinawa's quena is a typical narrative song that uses pairs of words and phrases to express wishes for the prosperity and happiness of the village community in a continuous and progressive manner. Looking at the quena called Amaweda, we can see that the process of rice cultivation, from preparing the land for rice cultivation to sowing, growing the rice, and harvesting, is sung in a careful and orderly manner to celebrate the harvest and at the same time accurately pass on the work procedures. In this way, there is a belief in the power of words that the expression of rice cultivation and other production processes directly leads to abundant harvests, and it seems that ancient quena songs were born based on this belief....

…沖縄のクェーナは，村落共同体の繁栄や幸福への願いを，対語･対句をつらね，連続･進行的に述べていく典型的な叙事的歌謡である。アマウェーダーとよばれるクェーナをみると，稲作のための整地から種まき，稲の生育，刈入れまでの過程を，順序よくていねいに謡いこむことによって，予祝すると同時に作業手順を正確に伝承していったことがうかがえる。このように，稲作その他の生産過程を表現することが，そのまま豊穣につながっていくのだという言霊信仰があり，それを基盤にしてクェーナ的古謡が生まれてきたようである。…
