A grass of the Poaceae family (illustration), also known as Bermuda grass. It is a perennial plant that grows mainly on sunny roadsides and wastelands near the seashore. Its long, stiff stems branch and crawl horizontally across the ground, some of which go underground to form rhizomes. They have leaves at the ends and branches that bear inflorescences at the nodes. Branches bearing inflorescences are 10-20 cm tall and bear a small number of leaves. The leaves are thin, short, linear, pointed at the tips, pale green, about 6 cm long and 3 mm wide. バミューダグラスの名でも知られるイネ科の草本(イラスト)。主として海辺近くの日当りのよい道端や荒地に生える多年草で,細長く硬い茎は枝分れしながら地面を横にはい,一部は地中に入って地下茎状にもなり,先端に葉をつけ,節からは花序をつける枝を立てる。花序をつける枝は高さ10~20cmで,少数の葉をつける。葉は細く短い線形で,先はとがり,淡緑色で,長さは6cm前後,幅は3mmくらいである。夏から初秋に開花する。
