It means window dressing, but in economic terms it refers to window dressing deposits or window dressing financial statements. Window dressing deposits occur when financial institutions manipulate their books to make their balance appear higher than the actual balance in order to increase their own deposit results, by issuing and receiving unnecessary checks, to obtain false figures. Window dressing financial statements can be classified into two types: overstating assets and understating liabilities to overstate profits in order to maintain stock prices and credit, and understating profits by using the opposite method to avoid taxation (reverse window dressing).

陳列窓装飾の意であるが，経済用語としては粉飾預金または粉飾決算をさす。粉飾預金は，自店の預金成績を上げるため金融機関が実際の残高以上に帳簿上の残高が多くなるよう不必要な小切手の出し入れなどの操作をして不正な数字を得ること。粉飾決算は，株式価格・信用の維持のため資産の過大計上，負債の過小計上をおこなって利益の過大表示をする場合と，課税のがれのため逆の手法を用いて利益の過小表示をする場合（逆粉飾）がある。
