Cynics - Cynics

Cynicism, also known as the Cynicism School, is a school of ancient Greek philosophy founded by Antisthenes. It was so named because it encouraged people to live a "dog-like" (Greek: kynikos) life, free from social norms and with a view to being selfless and possessive. It is the origin of the English word "cynicism." Diogenes of Sinope is the most well-known member of this school because of his eccentric behavior. 犬儒学派，皮肉派とも。アンティステネスを創始者とする古代ギリシア哲学の一学派。社会的規範にとらわれず，無欲・無所有を旨として，〈犬のような〉（ギリシア語でキュニコスkynikos）人生を送ることを勧めたのでこの名がある。英語シニシズムcynicismなどの語源。シノペのディオゲネスが，その奇行のゆえに同学派中最も知られる。
