...It was only with the accumulation of long poles that the birth of "lawn tennis" in the 1870s became possible. Meanwhile, tennis that followed the style of the court pole was called "real tennis" (England), "royal tennis" (Australia), or "court tennis" (United States), and was differentiated from lawn tennis. Real tennis still exists today, and world championships are held.
