Born: April 10, 1912, Bordeaux [Died]2000.10.17. French philosopher. He studied under L. Branswick at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and was deeply influenced by him. His works, such as his debut work La découverte de soi (1948) (The Discovery of the Self) and Les sciences humaines et la pensée occidentale (The Human Sciences and Western Thought) (3 volumes, 1966), are permeated with attempts to establish philosophy as a concrete human science from an existentialist standpoint.
