Japanese: ウスバシロチョウ（英語表記）Parnassius glacialis

Lepidoptera, Papilionidae. Forewing length 25-38mm. Wings are white and translucent with black spots. Body is covered with many long yellow hairs. Larvae feed on Corydalis family plants such as Corydalis rotundifolia and Corydalis frutescens. Adults appear around May-June. Flight is slow. Found in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and also distributed in central Chugoku. There is a large amount of regional variation. A closely related species, P. stubbendorfii , can be distinguished by the grey hairs on its body. It is endemic to Hokkaido, and feeds on Corydalis frutescens and Corydalis frutescens.
