Martianus dermestoides (Korean mealworm beetle)
An insect of the Tenebrionidae family in the Coleoptera order. Body length is about 6 mm. The body is oblong, with both sides nearly parallel. It is black-brown and shiny, with slightly reddish legs and ventral surface. The front edge of the head shield is nearly straight. There are small diagonal depressions on both sides of the base of the pronotum. The elytra have clear vertical stripes, and the interlocutory space is punctuated. The legs are short. It is omnivorous, preferring grains and dry fruits. It is widely distributed in Honshu, Taiwan, China, Southeast Asia, etc. It is used for medicinal purposes under the name "Kowloon insect" and is sometimes raised on medicinal herbs. There are many closely related species.
