Born December 30, 1869, Swanmoor, England [Died] March 28, 1944. Toronto, Canada. Canadian humorist and economist. Full name Stephen Butler Leacock. Born in England, he moved to Canada at the age of six. He studied at the University of Toronto and the University of Chicago, and taught economics at McGill University for about 30 years from 1903, where he was famous as a distinguished professor. However, his forte was humorous novels, and he wrote many short story collections, including his most famous work, Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town (1912), Nonsense Novels (1911), and My Discovery of England (1922). He was also a prolific critic, writing biographies of Mark Twain (1932) and Charles Dickens (1933). He also wrote his autobiography, The Boy I Left Behind (1946).
