Anigozanthus (English name) kangaroo poo

Japanese: アニゴザンサス（英語表記）kangaroo poo

A medium-sized perennial plant of the Haemopodaceae family, closely related to the Amaryllidaceae family, of which several species have differentiated in southwestern Australia (illustration). The roots are red and thick. The leaves are sword-shaped. The flower stalk reaches a height of 1-1.5m, branching at the top and producing numerous flowers. The flowers are large, 3-5cm in diameter, with a long, gently curved flower tube covered on the outside with short, downy hairs, and the flower color varies depending on the species: deep red in A. coccineus Paxt., yellow-green in A. flavidus Red., and green in A. manglesii Don.

オーストラリア南西部に数種が分化しているヒガンバナ科に近縁なハエモドラム科の中型宿根草（イラスト）。根は赤色で太くなる。葉は剣状。花茎は1～1.5mの高さに達し，上部は分枝して多数の花をつける。花は大きく3～5cm，ゆるやかに曲がった長い花筒部を有し外面は短い綿毛状の毛におおわれ，種によって花色は異なる。すなわち，コッキネウスA.coccineus Paxt.では深紅色，フラビドゥスA.flavidus Red.では黄緑色，マングレシイA.manglesii Donでは緑色である。
