…As for private kilns, the Naeshirogawa Kiln, established by naturalized potter Paku Hei-i, was located in Higashiichiki-cho and mainly produced everyday items using white and black glazes. In 1786 (Tenmei 6), Ijichi Dan'emon, a vassal of Kitago Hisatsura, the lord of Hirasa-go, invited a potter from Arita to establish the Hirasa Kiln, where he fired the first porcelain. Hirasa Sansai, which was made by applying a tortoiseshell-like sansai glaze to a porcelain base, became popular overseas. The porcelain base with gold brocade, which was produced in large quantities for overseas markets from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period, is particularly famous. …
