November Steps

Japanese: ノベンバー･ステップス（英語表記）November Steps

This work for biwa, shakuhachi and orchestra by Toru Takemitsu was commissioned in 1967 for the 125th anniversary of the founding of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and premiered on November 9th of the same year, featuring Tsuruta Kinshi on biwa, Yokoyama Katsuya on shakuhachi, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ozawa Seiji. This work, which combines Japanese instruments with the orchestra and Eastern instruments, attracted much attention at the time of its premiere, and has since been frequently performed by orchestras around the world.
