A former town in Funai County, central Kyoto Prefecture. Occupying the central part of the Tanba Highlands, the main settlement is a former post town on the San'in Road along the upper reaches of the Takaya River, a tributary of the Yura River. Rice is the main crop, with dairy farming and vegetable cultivation also taking place. The San'in Main Line runs through the northern part of the town. In October 2005, it merged with Mizuho Town and Wachi Town in Funai County to become Kyotanba Town in Funai County. 74.09 km2 . 8,927 people (2003). 京都府中部,船井郡の旧町。丹波高地中部を占め,中心集落は由良川の支流高屋川の上流に沿う山陰道の旧宿場町。米作を主とし,酪農,野菜栽培なども行われる。北部には山陰本線が通じる。2005年10月,船井郡瑞穂町,和知町と合併し町制,船井郡京丹波町となる。74.09km2。8927人(2003)。
