Theory of no-self - Mugasetsu

Japanese:
Theory of no-self - Mugasetsu
A unique Buddhist idea that holds that there is no fixed, substantial self (atman). In Sanskrit, it is called nairātmya‐vāda. In Indian orthodox Brahmanism, it was generally believed that there exists a self as the essence of the self, which is the bearer of karma and undergoes reincarnation through birth and death. The founder of Buddhism, Shakyamuni, opposed this theory of the existence of the self, and claimed that there is no substantial self in all phenomena, as stated in one of the Three Dharma Seals, "No Self in All Phenomena."
