Born: September 16, 1898. Bresse, Oise
Died: February 22, 1945. Memuningen. French politician. Joined the Young Communist League as a metalworker, and later became a member of the French Communist Party Central Committee. In 1924, he became a member of the National Assembly and mayor of Saint-Denis. In 1927, he was imprisoned for sedition. In 1933, he advocated the formation of a unified anti-fascist front with the Socialist Party, but was expelled from the Central Committee as it was premature, and in 1934, he was also expelled from Comintern. In 1936, with the support of writer J. Roman and wine maker Hennessy, he founded the anti-communist fascist party, the French People's Party, but in 1937, he was dismissed as mayor of Saint-Denis by the Minister of Justice and resigned from his position as a member of the National Assembly. After France's surrender in World War II, he supported the Vichy government's approach to Germany, and from 1941 to 1942, he organized a volunteer force and fought against the Soviet army on the eastern front. After the liberation of France in 1944, he fled to Germany, but was killed in an Allied machine gun attack in 1945.
