Kyushu Railway Company - Kyushu Railway Company
Established in 1987 following the division and privatization of the Japanese National Railways. Commonly known as JR Kyushu. Operates 21 lines throughout Kyushu, including the Kagoshima Main Line, Nippo Main Line, and Nagasaki Main Line, totaling 2,273.0 km. Also operates high-speed ferries between Hakata and Busan. Head office in Fukuoka. Has a weaker management base than other JR companies, and is strengthening cooperation within the group in areas such as distribution, housing development, and travel. In 2004, the Kyushu Shinkansen (Shin-Yatsushiro to Kagoshima-Chuo) opened, and in 2011 the remaining line between Hakata and Shin-Yatsushiro. Capital in 2011 was 16 billion yen, with sales of 297.1 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2011. →JR
