A Chinese politician during the reign of Emperor Cheng of the Western Han Dynasty. His pen name was Ziyun. He was from Chang'an. He was well versed in astronomy and the study of the I Ching, especially in classical Chinese studies, and excelled at discussing natural disasters. In 30 B.C., he was recommended by Fang Zhongyan, and admonished Emperor Cheng for his mismanagement in the wake of solar eclipses and earthquakes, but he also defended the administration of the powerful general Wang Feng, attracting his attention and becoming a Guanglu Daifu. He served successively as governor and then as Minister of Agriculture, and submitted his opinions in over 40 letters to the emperor, but Emperor Cheng did not trust him much, as he considered him a supporter of the Wang family, a relative of his by marriage.
