Takeo Fujii - Fujiichikugai

A Chinese poet of the late Edo period. His given name was Kei, his pen name was Shikai, and his pen names were Takegai and Uko. He served as the firearms magistrate of the Takatsuki Domain in Settsu (now Osaka Prefecture), but he studied at Rai Sanyo's private school from a young age, and was the most famous poet among his disciples. He was particularly skilled in seven-character quatrains, or 28 characters long, and left behind many short pieces of fresh descriptive poetry and romantic lyric poetry. His most famous work was titled "Yoshino" and it reads, "The pines and cypresses of the ancient tombs howl in the wind. When I search for spring in the mountain temple, the spring is lonely. The old monk in the snow has stopped blowing his horn. In the place where the fallen flowers are deep, he preaches about the Southern Court." He also wrote an anthology of poems such as "Takegai Twenty-Eight Character Poems" (1854).

江戸後期の漢詩人。名を啓(けい)、字(あざな)を士開、号を竹外・雨香という。摂津高槻(たかつき)藩（大阪府）の鉄砲奉行(ぶぎょう)を務めたが、少年のころより頼山陽(らいさんよう)の塾に学び、山陽門下中もっとも詩名が高かった。なかでも、七言四句すなわち28字からなる七言絶句を得意とし、清新な叙景詩やロマンチックな叙情詩の小品を多く残した。『吉野』と題された、「古陵の松柏天飈(しょうはくてんぴょう)に吼(ほ)ゆ　山寺春を尋ぬれば春寂寥(せきりょう)たり　眉雪(びせつ)の老僧時に帚(は)くことを輟(や)め　落花深き処(ところ)に南朝を説く」という作はもっとも人口に膾炙(かいしゃ)した。『竹外二十八字詩』（1854）などの詩集がある。
