Warm-blooded animals

Japanese:
Warm-blooded animals
Also known as homeotherms or warm-blooded animals. An animal that maintains a constant body temperature regardless of outside temperature or activity, and includes only the two classes birds and mammals. The body is heated by muscular activity as the main heat source, and cooled by heat loss from the respiratory system and the body surface, but this is automatically regulated by a thermoregulatory mechanism consisting of thermoreceptors and the nervous and hormonal systems. However, some animals hibernate because it becomes difficult to maintain body temperature in extreme cold or when there is a food shortage. In recent years, there has been a theory that extinct dinosaurs were warm-blooded, but there is no definite proof. → Cold-blooded animals → Related topics Body temperature
