A religious rebellion at the end of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China. At the time, the imperial court was in chaos, and conflict with government forces spread social unrest. Sun En, who succeeded his uncle, a powerful leader of the Five Pecks of Rice Sect, seized the opportunity to rise up in revolt with his followers (399). With the support of local lords, he became a major force and conquered the Jiangnan region, but was pursued by Liu Yu (Emperor Wu of the Song Dynasty) and committed suicide. His sister's husband, Lu Xun, led the remnants of his forces and established a base in Guangdong, but was defeated again by Liu Yu and annihilated (411). This rebellion led to the decline of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and the rise of a military commander, Liu Yu. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
