Student Social Sciences Association - Student Social Sciences Association

Japanese: 学生社会科学連合会 - がくせいしゃかいかがくれんごうかい
Student Social Sciences Association - Student Social Sciences Association

A nationwide organization of social thought research groups at universities, high schools, vocational schools, etc. Abbreviated as Gakuren. Also written as SFSS (Student Federation of Social Science). Its predecessor was the Student Federation (FS), which was formed on November 7, 1922 (Taisho 11), and was renamed the Student Social Science Federation at its first national convention on September 14, 1921.

During this period, the group fought against military education and for freedom of academic research, playing a part in the social movement of the Taisho Democracy era. After its second convention on July 16, 1925, when it was renamed the All-Japan Student Social Science Association, the movement became more radicalized amid the oppression. On November 7, 1929 (Showa 4), it was dissolved when it was reorganized into the Japan Communist Youth League.
