A physical laboratory belonging to Cambridge University. It was opened in 1874 with a full donation from the University's Honorary Chancellor, the 7th Duke of Devonshire. It was named after Cavendish, the grandson of the 2nd Duke of Devonshire. Its first director was Maxwell.
