…Pioneer of the Irish agricultural cooperative movement and politician. Born as the second son of the 13th Baron Dunsany, he studied at Eton College and Oxford University before suffering from lung disease and spending 10 years in Wyoming, USA, managing a ranch to recuperate. In 1889, he returned home and began to create cooperatives, mainly among dairy farmers in the south, in order to overcome the backwardness of Irish agriculture. In 1894, he formed the Irish Agricultural Organization Association and promoted joint shipments of dairy products, poultry, and eggs, as well as the establishment of an agricultural credit bank. …
