Katsuta

Japanese: 勝田 - かつた
Katsuta
The area is located in the northeastern part of Okayama Prefecture, in the northern part of Mimasaka City. It is located in the hills on the southern slope of the Chugoku Mountains. It was incorporated as a town in 1940. In 1955, it was merged with Kajinami Village. In 2005, it was merged with Ohara Town, Higashiawakura Village, Mimasaka Town, Sakuto Town, and Eida Town to form Mimasaka City. It is a long and narrow area from north to south along the valley of the Kajinami River, a tributary of the Yoshii River, and is mostly mountainous. The origin of the place name is said to be the land "Kachibeta" cultivated by Korean immigrants "Katsube", and it was called Kajinami-no-sho from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. The Touninsai festival at Kajinami Shrine is famous. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, and the area produces tobacco, timber, and Mitsumata. There is Kuga Dam, which is a source of agricultural water for the development of the Mimasaka Plateau. The northern part belongs to Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park.
