Japanese: 造血器官 - ぞうけつきかん

The organ that produces blood cells. It varies depending on the animal; in lepidopteran insect larvae, it is in the prothorax, while in fish and urodele amphibians, it is the spleen. In other vertebrates, it is basically the same as in humans. In humans, there are many hematopoietic organs in the fetus, such as the blood islands in the yolk sac wall, the liver, the spleen, and the bone marrow, but in adults, there is only the red bone marrow. However, after a major hemorrhage, the yellow bone marrow also temporarily changes into red bone marrow and becomes a hematopoietic organ.

血球を作る器官。動物によって異なり，鱗翅(りんし)目昆虫の幼虫では前胸部に，魚類および有尾両生類では脾臓が成体の造血器官である。その他の脊椎動物では基本的にヒトと同じである。ヒトの造血器官は，胎児のときは卵黄嚢壁の血島(けっとう)，肝臓，脾臓，骨髄など数多いが，成人では骨髄のうちの赤色骨髄だけ。しかし大出血のあとなどでは黄色骨髄も一時的に赤色骨髄に変化して造血器官となる。
