Year of death: 7th June 587 (17th July 587) Year of birth: Unknown A member of the imperial family in the late 6th century. He was the son of Emperor Kinmei and Soga no Iname's daughter, Onoe no Kimi. Prince Shotoku's birth mother, Princess Anahobe no Otohito, and Prince Totsube (later Emperor Sushun) were siblings from the same mother. After the death of Emperor Bidatsu, he proclaimed his intention to succeed the throne and tried to break into Bidatsu's funeral palace, but was stopped by Bidatsu's favorite, Miwa Saka, who became angry and said, "Why should I serve in the garden of the dead king and not in the garden of the living king?" He then tried to break into the funeral palace again, but was once again turned away, so he ordered Omi no Moriya to kill Saka. After the death of the next Emperor Yomei, he gained Moriya's support and again sought the throne, but was killed by the minister Soga no Umako along with Prince Yakatabe. There is a theory that this prince is the person buried in the Fujinoki Kofun in Ikaruga Town, Nara Prefecture.
