Yunishigawa [Hot Spring] - Yunishigawa

Japanese: 湯西川[温泉] - ゆにしがわ

This hot spring is located in Kuriyama Village, Shioya County, in the northwest of Tochigi Prefecture. It is a simple hot spring with a temperature of 50-55°C. It is located at an altitude of about 700m along the Yunishi River, a tributary of the Kinu River. It was discovered during the Tensho era (1573-92), but for a long time it was an abandoned hot spring resort. Development has progressed since a prefectural road was opened in 1951, making it possible for automobiles to pass through. The surrounding forests produce a lot of lumber for furniture. It is home to Lake Ikari, Henonotaki Falls, and Setoai Gorge, and is a base for exploring the back of Nikko. It is also known for mountain stream fishing, and there is a ski resort.

栃木県北西部，塩谷郡栗山村にある温泉。単純泉，50～55℃。鬼怒川の支流湯西川に沿い，標高約700mの地点にある。天正年間(1573‐92)の発見とされるが，長い間ひなびた湯治場であった。1951年に県道が開け，自動車の通行が可能になって以来開発が進んだ。付近一帯の森林からは家具用材が多く産出される。五十里（いかり）湖，蛇王ノ滝，瀬戸合峡などがあり，裏日光探勝の基地となっている。渓流釣りでも知られ，スキー場もある。
