Kimotsuki Mountains - Kimotsukisanchi

A mountain range stretching for about 56 km from northeast to southwest in the southern part of the Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. The highest point is Mt. Hoyoshidake, 967 meters. It includes the three towns of Kimotsuki, Kinko, and Minami Osumi in Kimotsuki County, as well as the southern tip of Kanoya City. The southeastern slope of the mountain range, about 800 to 900 meters along its long axis, is submerged in the Osumi Strait and has been left behind by development, so much so that it is said to be the last uncharted territory. In particular, Mt. Inaodake (930 meters) in the middle of the range is a primeval tropical forest of oak trees and oak trees, and is a nationally designated natural monument. The geology is mainly composed of the Shimanto Group and granite. The area around Cape Sata, the southernmost point, is incorporated into Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park.

鹿児島県大隅半島(おおすみはんとう)南部に北東から南西方向へ約56キロメートルにわたって延びる山地。最高点は甫与志岳(ほよしだけ)の967メートル。肝属郡肝付(きもつき)、錦江(きんこう)、南大隅の3町域と鹿屋(かのや)市の南端部域が含まれる。長軸に沿う800～900メートル前後の山地の南東斜面は、そのまま大隅海峡に没し、最後の秘境とまでいわれるように開発から取り残された。とくに、山地の中ほどにある稲尾岳(いなおだけ)（930メートル）にはタブ、マテバシイなどの暖帯林植生が原生林のままで残り、国指定天然記念物となっている。地質は四万十(しまんと)層群と花崗(かこう)岩が主体。最南端の佐多岬周辺は霧島錦江湾(きりしまきんこうわん)国立公園に編入されている。
