After 1489 - before 1550 Moorish writer and traveler. In the 16th century, after the Catholic forces recaptured the Iberian Peninsula, he lived in three worlds: Islam, Black Africa, and Catholicism, and left behind a valuable record of his experiences. He was born in Granada as a Muslim and was named al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad al-Wazzān al-Zayyātī. After the fall of Granada (1492), he went to Morocco for his education, and at the age of 17, he went to Songhai, a black empire that flourished at the time south of the Sahara, accompanied by his uncle.
