Takataro Kimura
Year of death: July 18, 1931
Year of birth: September 18, 1870 (October 12, 1870)
A thinker and translator from the Meiji and Taisho periods. His pen name was Narushio. He graduated from the Department of Philosophy at the Imperial University. He began his research into Chinese ethics under the tutelage of Inoue Tetsujiro, but in 1897 (Meiji 30), seeking an ideology worthy of personal investment rather than objectivity, he founded the magazine Nihonshugi (Japanese Theory) with Inoue and others, rejecting Buddhism and other ideas and advocating the full blossoming of the "spirit of the founding of Japan." From 1901 onwards, he devoted himself to the study of Romantic literature and Greek classics. His famous works include Byron's Literary World's Great Demon King (1902) and The Complete Works of Plato, which gained enthusiastic readers. Through this research, Nihonshugi developed into a bizarre theory that sees ancient Japan as the origin of world history. From 1901 to 1902, he published An Ancient History of Japan Based on Worldwide Research, a grand comparative study from that perspective.
