Yoshiki Kiuchi

Sculptor. Born in Mito City. In 1914 (Taisho 3), he entered Asakura Fumio's sculpture school, and in 1916, his work "Heikichi" was selected for the 10th Bunten exhibition for the first time, and he continued to exhibit in official exhibitions. In 1921, he traveled to Europe, working with Bourdelle in Paris for about a year, and stayed in France for the next 15 years, exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants, and becoming devoted to Greek archaic sculpture. After returning to Japan, he exhibited at the Nikaten Exhibition for a time, but from 1948 (Showa 23), he exhibited his lifelike works at the Shinjukai Exhibition, and won a number of awards, including the Mainichi Art Award and the Nakahara Teijiro Award. His representative works include the terracotta "Woman's Face," created during his stay in Europe, as well as "Sleeping Woman" and "Found Pose."

彫刻家。水戸市に生まれる。1914年（大正3）朝倉文夫の彫塑塾に入り、16年第10回文展に『平吉』が初入選し、官展に出品を続けた。21年渡欧、パリで1年ほどブールデルにつき、以後15年間フランスに滞在、サロン・ドートンヌ、サロン・デ・ザンデパンダンなどに出品、ギリシアのアルカイック彫刻に傾倒した。帰国後一時二科展に出品したが、48年（昭和23）から新樹会展に生命感あふれる作品を出品し、毎日美術賞、中原悌二郎(ていじろう)賞など受賞を重ねた。代表作に滞欧作のテラコッタ『女の顔』をはじめ『寝ている女』『見つけたポーズ』などがある。
