Shikiura

Japanese: 敷浦 - しきうら

A fishing village that made a contract with a fish wholesaler to borrow money in advance for its fishing business and sell the catch to the wholesaler in return was called the fish wholesaler's Shikiura, Shiirehama, Mochihama, etc. From early on, many fishing businesses used large-scale fishing gear such as fishing nets, and many of them required large amounts of money for purchases. In addition, there was a large difference between good and bad catches from year to year, so it was easy for them to be unable to cover their purchases with their own funds. On the other hand, fish wholesalers, in the midst of competition between businesses to acquire catches, often had to consider borrowing money in advance in order to secure a stable supply of fish as cheap as possible.

魚問屋から漁業経営の仕入金を前借りし，その代り漁獲物はその魚問屋に売り渡す契約をしている漁村を，その魚問屋の敷浦，仕入浜（しいれはま），持浜（もちはま）などといった。漁業経営においては早くから漁網など大規模な漁具を使用するものが少なくなく，多額の仕入金を必要とするものが多かった。それに年々の豊漁不漁の差が大きく，仕入金を自己資金でまかないきれない場合が発生しやすかった。他方，魚問屋の方でも業者相互間の漁獲物獲得競争のなかで，できるだけ安い魚を安定的に確保していく必要から，仕入金の前貸しを考えざるをえない場合が少なくなかった。
