Kinetic art refers to a creative work that has a dynamic mechanism or drive, and uses space and time to create artistic expression. This is a new artistic field that emerged in the 20th century, and the first work was a motorized sculpture (1910) created by Russian sculptor N. Gabo, based on the ideas of Cubism and Futurism. This was followed by works such as M. Duchamp's Rotating Hemisphere (1925). It was Moholy-Nagy who theoretically systematized kinetic art. A major kinetic art movement began again in the late 1950s, and J. Tinguely's nonsensical mechanical sculptures, which use recycled machinery, are said to be satire of the mechanical civilization.
