Schnauzer (English spelling)
Originating in Germany, this is a herding dog, guard dog, and family dog. It is also called the Schnauzer. There are three types: standard, giant, and miniature. The Standard Schnauzer is an old breed that was already used as a herding dog in the agricultural areas of southern Germany around the 15th century, and was used as an all-purpose dog to guide cattle, sheep, and pigs, guard livestock from pests, catch and kill mice, and guard barns. It is said to have been bred from a cross between a German poodle, a wolf spitz, a wirehaired pinscher, and a terrier.
