The hereditary name that represents the Mitsui family. The first was Takahira (1653-1737), the eldest son of Mitsui Takatoshi. The head of the head family did not necessarily bear the name. Famous names include Takafusa (1684-1748), Takahira's son who wrote "Chonin Kogenroku," the 13th head Takayoshi (1808-1885), who built the foundations of the Mitsui zaibatsu, and the 15th head Takamune (1857-1948).
