Mitsui Hachiroemon

The hereditary name that represents the Mitsui family. The first was Takahira (1653-1737), the eldest son of Mitsui Takatoshi. The head of the head family did not necessarily bear the name. Famous names include Takafusa (1684-1748), Takahira's son who wrote "Chonin Kogenroku," the 13th head Takayoshi (1808-1885), who built the foundations of the Mitsui zaibatsu, and the 15th head Takamune (1857-1948). 三井家を代表する世襲の名。三井高利の長男高平〔1653-1737〕が初代。総領家の当主が名乗るとは限らなかった。高平の子で《町人考見録》を著した高房〔1684-1748〕，三井財閥の基礎を築いた13代高福(たかよし)〔1808-1885〕，15代高棟(たかみね)〔1857-1948〕らが有名。1947年，16代高公のとき財閥解体。
