Located on the island of Borneo, this is the highest peak in Southeast Asia. It belongs to the state of Sabah in Malaysia. It is 4,095m above sea level. It is made of granite and has temperate forests up to about 3,700m, with glacial landforms at higher altitudes. It is a sacred mountain that the Kadazan people believe to be their home after death. The surrounding area of ​​686km2 is designated as Kinabalu National Park, a wildlife sanctuary (registered as a World Heritage Site in 2000). It is also known as a habitat for orangutans.
