…It is distinguished from the divine emperor. The term was coined by German ancient historian W. Ensslin to describe the idea that Eusebius, Bishop of Caesarea in the 4th century, advocated to support and strengthen the supremacy and absolute power of the Christian emperor Constantine I. This would develop into the imperial ideal of the later Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire.
