Invocations psychosis

Japanese: 祈禱性精神病 - きとうせいせいしんびょう（英語表記）invocations psychosis

This is a unique condition that arises from religious prayer or similar situations, and can cause personality transformation, religious delusions, and delusions of possession. It was named by Masatake Morita (1915). It was considered a kind of autosuggestive mental disorder caused by emotional feelings, and also included fox possession and dog god possession, but today, the most typical example is a case in which a person who continues to pray to ward off misfortune for their family begins to behave and speak as if they are the god or Buddha that they are praying to. Almost all patients are middle-aged women, and there are many female religious leaders whose strong faith began with a similar experience.

加持祈禱または類似の状況から起こり，人格変換，宗教妄想，憑依妄想などを発する特異な病態で，森田正馬（まさたけ）により名づけられた(1915)。感動をもとにして起こる一種の自己暗示性の精神異常とされ，狐憑きや犬神憑き(つきもの)などもこれに含められたが，今日では，一家の不幸をはらうべく祈禱をつづけているうち，自分が祈禱の対象である神仏そのもののような言動を示しはじめるケースが代表例と見なされる。患者はほとんどすべて中年の婦人で，同様の体験が強固な信仰の出発点となった女性教祖は少なくない。
