A perennial plant of the Apiaceae family that grows in subalpine grasslands. Its Japanese name means "Miyama Kawakyo" (deep mountain river angelica), derived from the fact that it grows deep in the mountains. The stem is 40-80cm tall, upright, branches at the top, and hollow. The basal leaves have long petioles, are divided into three trifoliate lobes, and are slightly triangular overall, with pointed lobes at the tips. The leaves on the stem have short petioles that form sheaths that embrace the stem. The flowers bloom in August and September, are small and white, and form compound umbels at the ends of the branches. There are five petals that roll inward at the tips. The inflorescence is 6-10cm in diameter, with about 15-25 branches, and has short, nipple-like hairs. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
