Located near Ashkhabad in Turkmenistan, this site spans the Neolithic to Iron Age periods. It was excavated by a US scientific survey team in 1903-1904, and by a Soviet survey team in the 1950s. As it is located in the center of Eurasia, it is important for elucidating the spread of painted pottery, copperware, wheat cultivation, and livestock breeding.
