〘Noun〙 A type of children's game. A hole about 10cm in diameter is dug, a line is drawn about one meter in front of it, and players stand on that line and throw things like mukuroji, zezegai, pebbles, nuts, etc. The player who throws something into the hole wins, but if any of the things don't go in, players throw other mukuroji, zezegai, etc. at it, and the player who hits it wins. When coins and one-sen coins per hole came to be used, it became more like gambling for adults. Later, it came to mean a game in which two lines are drawn on the ground about one meter apart, several zezegai, etc. are placed on one line, and the player who hits the other line wins (Essays, Morisada Manko (1837-53)).
