Atmospheric boundary layer

Japanese: 大気境界層 - たいききょうかいそう（英語表記）atmospheric boundary layer

This is an atmospheric layer that is directly affected by friction with the earth's surface. The thickness of the layer changes between day and night. It also varies depending on latitude, and refers to the atmospheric layer up to an average altitude of 1 km. It is also called the Ekman layer or Ekman boundary layer. The layer above this atmospheric layer is called the free atmosphere. The atmospheric boundary layer is characterized by weaker winds and larger temperature changes than the free atmosphere. The atmospheric boundary layer from the earth's surface to an altitude of 100 m is called the surface boundary layer.

地表面の摩擦の影響を直接受ける大気層。層の厚さは昼と夜で変化する。また緯度によっても厚さが異なり，平均して高度 1kmまでの大気層をさす。エクマン層またはエクマン境界層とも呼ぶ。この大気層よりさらに高い層を自由大気と呼ぶ。大気境界層は自由大気と比べて風が弱く，気温の変化が大きいのが特徴である。また，地表面から高度 100mまでの大気境界層を接地境界層と呼ぶ。
