Kikki

Japanese:
Kikki

This is the diary of Fujiwara (Yoshida) Tsunefusa, a court noble and minister of civil affairs who lived from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period. It is also called "Kitsuongi" or "Kichidaiki," or "Kikkoki" after the Chinese name for the Ministry of Civil Affairs (Tobe). Only the portion covering 1173 (Joan 3) to 1188 (Bun'ei 4) remains, although there are many missing parts. However, the remaining part contains detailed descriptions, and we can learn not only about the ceremonies and events of the Imperial Court, but also about the Jisho and Juei civil wars and the actual state of the family domain. As a diary of a court noble from the period from the rise of the Taira clan government to the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate, it is a historical document second only to "Gyokuyo," and is even more valuable in terms of understanding the way of life of court nobles of the Ryoke class. Included in "Shiryo Taisei."
