In March 624, the Prophet Muhammad defeated the Quraysh tribe of Mecca. Muhammad, who had migrated to Medina (hijra), led over 300 men to attack a Meccan caravan returning from Syria. When the Quraysh learned of this, they also set out to attack Muhammad's army, and a battle ensued at Badr, where the road from Medina met the trade route connecting Mecca and Syria. This was Muhammad's first major battle, and the victory strengthened his political position in Medina.

624年3月，預言者ムハンマドがメッカのクライシュ族を破った戦い。メディナに移住(ヒジュラ)したムハンマドが，シリアからの帰路にあったメッカの隊商を襲おうとして300余名を率いて出撃。これを知ったクライシュ族もムハンマド軍を襲うため出撃し，メディナからの道がメッカとシリアとを結ぶ通商路と合するバドルBadrで会戦となった。ムハンマドにとって最初の本格的な戦いで，この勝利によりメディナでの政治的立場を強めた。
