This mountain is located in the Okuhida Onsen area, northeast of Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. It lies to the west of the mountains of Yari-ga-take and Hotaka-dake, and has an elevation of 2,898 meters. It is characterized by its shape of a neat cap from any angle, and is made of quartz trachyte. It is said that the monk Dosen Osho and the monk Enku Shonin climbed it in the past, and during the Bunsei era (1818-1830), the monk Banryu climbed it five times. In the Meiji era, the first person to climb it was the British missionary W. Weston, in 1894 (Meiji 27). It takes about nine hours to reach the peak from Shinhotaka Onsen.
